Sandoval Lake Lodge

Located deep in Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve, Sandoval Lake Lodge overlooks sparkling, palm-rimmed Lago Sandoval, the most beautiful and wildlife-rich of all oxbow lakes in the Tambopata area. This privileged location gives you exclusive access to the lake in the early morning and late afternoon, the best hours for wildlife viewing and photography.

The Lodge

Sandoval lodge specializes in small groups. Individualised attention and our overriding quest to conserve the lake and surrounding rainforest are at the heart of the operations.

Sandoval Lake Lodge is constructed almost entirely of ecologically-harvested “driftwood” mahogany trees collected from the floods that naturally carry logs downriver out of Manu National Park.  The Lodge is one extended structure consisting of a large screened main dining room/lounge with 25 fully-screened double-occupancy rooms (50 beds) with private bathrooms with hot shower and toilets, arranged in two wings.   One wing features 16 rooms (32 beds) while the other includes 9 rooms (18 beds).
Sandoval Lodge has 25 simple, yet comfortable fully screened rooms with en-suite bathroom, hot water, and electricity, 3x times per day, from 5:00 am to 6:00 am, from noon to 4:00 pm and from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm and during these hours, ceiling fans.

meals, airport transfers in Puerto Maldonado, naturalist guides, lake excursions by day in search of Giant Otters, monkeys, and macaws, forest excursions, night excursions in search of caimans, and evening slide shows.

Sneak Peek - 2d/1n

Only because Sandoval Lodge is located so close to Puerto Maldonado is it even make any sense to consider such an ultra-short program. But as it only takes 30min to reach the lodge from the airport you can dip right into the rainforest experience and make the most of your time.

The 3d/2n Program is a little bit more relaxed and allows a more rounded insight into this very special environment. This program includes walks along the forest trails by day and night, as well as boat excursions Sandoval Lake.
